Night Games
…began as a playful experiment, with no big plans. I wrote a scene for fun with a friend, intending to shoot a quick video on my iPhone. The concept was simple: I’d film while my friend sat in the living room, annoyed by my interruptions. You wouldn’t see me—just hear my voice, and then I’d disappear upstairs.
The project soon evolved into an audio drama, and I had the privilege of recording it with Michael Maloney, an incredibly versatile actor. Michael can bring characters to life in unexpected, magical ways—performing in multiple emotional layers at once. His talent makes every scene feel alive, dynamic, and new.
I first met Michael when he worked on a radio play I wrote for the BBC called The Mind-Body Problem, which starred Bill Nighy and Geraldine James. Like that play, Night Games is driven by the unique freedom of audio storytelling. Audio lets us bypass the literal, embracing the mysterious and surreal. The space between sounds is filled with tension, imagination, and possibility.
Michael’s contribution has been immeasurable. We’ve completed the first season of ten episodes, and I’m thrilled to say that while he’s currently touring as Hercule Poirot in Murder on the Orient Express, we are already preparing to record Season 2.
Thank you for listening, and stay tuned for more updates!
